ISWP’s Training Working Group is working to ensure people who need wheelchairs are provided with properly fitted chairs through competent training, testing and delivery. The Working Group promotes dissemination and rollout of World Health Organization (WHO) Wheelchair Service Training Packages, including Basic, Intermediate, and Managers and Stakeholders. The group also supports capacity building of wheelchair services and monitoring of personnel within the services to meet WHO guidelines. Working Group members include doctors, trainers, wheelchair technicians, university professors, consultants, and others who are experienced in wheelchair training and provision.
Two subcommittees comprise the Working Group:
Competency: Supports development of the ISWP Wheelchair Service Provision Basic and Intermediate tests, as well as the Trainee Competency Assessment (TCA) for the Training of Trainers course. Promotes mentoring for wheelchair service providers to improve skills to better assess, prescribe and fit wheelchairs and postural support devices.
Integration: Integrates wheelchair provisioning into pre-professional training curricula via evidence-based training materials and methodologies.
