Role: Executive Director, International Society of Wheelchair Professionals

Location: Flexible, with international travel

Salary: c$125,000 USD

75 million people worldwide require a wheelchair for mobility and function, yet most lack access to an appropriate wheelchair or services.1 The International Society of Wheelchair Professionals (ISWP) is the lead coordinator of wheelchair sector activities globally, helping to professionalise wheelchair services around the world to benefit both wheelchair users and those who help them.  This is being accomplished by developing and promoting evidence-based wheelchair service and product standards, training and research initiatives, improving wheelchair design and manufacturing and coordinating services globally through the ISWP network.

Currently operating under the auspices of the University of Pittsburgh, ISWP is becoming its own separate charitable non-profit organization and is seeking to appoint its first Executive Director.

As Executive Director, you will bring outstanding communication and relationship building abilities to work successfully with a range of stakeholders including the ISWP Founding Board, USAID, the World Health Organization and our network of organisations and wheelchair service providers at the local level which help drive global initiatives focused on improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Entrepreneurial in approach, you will develop, recommend and implement strategies and operational plans to manage ISWP effectively and lead it smoothly through its transition to a separate charitable non-profit entity.  Beyond this, you will provide strong leadership both internally and externally to deliver effective fundraising, create strategic partnerships, provide persuasive high-level advocacy and representation and build worldwide support for assistive technology standards.

We are seeking an exceptional leader with a background in the public health or the global health sector (assistive technology experience a plus) and significant experience as an executive leader within the non-profit organisational environment.  A proven ability to work with a range of key international stakeholders including global funders, global health organizations, relevant professional associations and other relevant agencies and government departments working in the sector is essential.

ISWP particularly welcomes applications from people with lived experience of a disability, especially those who use wheelchairs for mobility.
