University of Pittsburgh Tissue Integrity Management (TIM) Laboratory

Organization Type: Testing Center

The Tissue Integrity Management (TIM) Laboratory is part of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology. The TIM Lab houses specialized apparatus for testing products and physiological measures as they relate to wheelchair seating and other support surfaces. The lab houses an extensive list of equipment including an ultrasound machine, thermal imager, blood pressure and heart rate monitor, temperature monitors, dual- and single-channel laser Doppler flowmetry systems, and interface pressure and temperature mapping systems. The lab also contains product testing apparatus including an MTS Alliance RF 100 testing machine with 500N, 2000N and 100kN load cells. The lab is equipped with modular data acquisition chassis and a variety of interchangeable modules. The lab provides access to a digitizing arm and basic electronic testing instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and multimeters. A dedicated HVAC system precisely controls the lab environment within testing parameters.
