Many times in my region, we consider that it is the right thing to do, when we talk about prescribing wheelchairs when prescribers have resistance to learning new technologies and accepting suggestions from the people we handle in this area, when we explain them from the most Basic concepts such as “La Basculacion” or on the footprint left by a patient who is sitting in a wheelchair that is not thought for his pathology or gives him quality of life or independence, the question is, how far can we go when Is this resistance very strong?

Resistance to change is an issue that many face when trying to improve the wheelchair sector. Awareness raising and education is the key. Sometime having peers lead these initiatives results in the “audience” being more open to the information. For example, if your audience has medical doctors, have in your team a medical doctor who is training or facilitating the learning activity. Wheelchair users are also very powerful trainers and facilitators as they speak from experience.
