Course description

The person with reduced mobility may have a lack of postural control. His posture is often unstable, asymmetrical and can, in the long term, cause irreversible and painful orthopedic deformities, pressure ulcers, breathing problems, and feeding problems. Mobility is reduced and the accomplishment of the different activities of daily living is often difficult.

The wheelchair is one of the most commonly used assistive devices for enhancing personal mobility. For many people with disability, an appropriate, well-designed and well fitted wheelchair can be the first step towards inclusion and participation in society

The basic course delivers theory in practice needed to prescribe an appropriate seating system for wheelchair users. This includes postural problems, clinical evaluation, prescription, fitting, user training, maintenance, and follow-up.

Course goal

The course will allow participants to develop their skills in postural management analysis, interpret results in order to prescribe an appropriate wheelchair following the eight steps of wheelchair service, according to the international guidelines defined by the World Health Organization.

Audience

This course is intended for therapists and technicians who want to improve their knowledge in the field of posture management and the provision of wheelchairs.

Certification

A certificate of “Wheelchair Service Training Package WSTP – basic level will be issued at the completion of the course.
